What Successes Feel like

Our dryer just broke the other day so I need to research a washer and dryer that to fit our little space. Till then we are drying our clothes in on a rod in our hot living room and I kind of like it. There's a clothes line out back now but it gets dark so early! I can't wait for the days to get long again but I also don't want baby up grow up any faster. He's already so much bigger than before and I didn't even have time to appreciate his tinyness. He's growing out of his clothes and has a little belly. I thought he'd be in newborn clothes for months! I know I've been discussing all the difficulty I've been having but today I've had a really good multitasking day. 1. I had to poo and baby started fussing and I didn't have time to get a bottle ready so I nursed while I poo'd. 2. My friend held Calvin and I scalded milk, broke down cardboard boxes and folded clothes and cleaned up 3. I learned a new baby wearing (an "advanced" style YouTube warned) and planted some cuttings I've been rooting, something I've been wanting to get done! 4. I didn't have anything to do with this but Calvin somehow napped for 3 hrs (I checked for breathing 3 times cause I was worried) and I started collecting most of the info for people I need to send thank you cards to. 5. I ate a banana. All this and I managed only to spill about a bottle of milk.

Two and Change and Humbling

Parents talk all the time about how different their kids are from each other.  After reading my gratitude post about Calvin peacefully going to bed and being independent, I thought it appropriate to describe tonight and the past few months.  Tonight, I was in bed working on my computer and Thomas is laying next to me and doing somersaults into me. I walk out and he's upset so John and I talk to him about trying to close his eyes to sleep. He agrees but then after a bit leaves the room. He comes back with a box of toys and starts playing with them. Then he leaves again noting that he pooped his diaper and had to go get Daddy. I wasn't going to argue with that logic. Then after a while he had not returned to bed, and I hear the tiny feet sound, then the sound of moving furniture, and the quiet that can only indicate mischief. I call out, Thomas what are you doing? There is a lightening of the steps that makes me panic. I call out to John to runs over as I run over to...

I Love Boobs

The other morning the timing worked out for me to take care of Calvin when he woke up before his green light. I went in, helped him with the potty and then we went back into bed for morning cuddles. He says to me, "boob" and mimed laying down. I asked if we wanted to cuddle on me and he said yes. Then I gave him kisses and said I love you Calvin. He said, "I love boobs, I love boobs, boobs boobs boobs." I laughed and said, do you love mommy? And he said, "I love mommy boobs" Today, Calvin said "I love mommy, I love baa baa, I love Thomas"

Never Wake a Sleeping Baby

I should be sleeping, but I'm up late lesson planning for the week and my head is spinning. I love watching baby while he's sleeping, he looks so calm, and wise. Sometimes he even does a little smile like he's dreaming. Sometimes he furrows his little brows like he is deep in thought.  Sometimes he pouts his little mouth. I never knew how much there was to know about babies and sleep until after we had a newborn in our arms and he was both always sleeping and somehow never sleeping at the same time. At around 2 months, in a casual middle of the night complaining to a parent friend with a child slightly older than Cal she told me that babies had wake windows and should be put down when we notice sleepy cues.  She sent me a little chart from instagram and I tried it.  Baby started rubbing his eyes, and his eyebrows turned red.  I put him down and like magic, he fell asleep.   After that, I read about sleep hygiene, and wake windows, and eat/play/sleep, ...
